Vote NO on AB348 Planned Parenthood’s Explicit Sex Education in our schools. Current law includes parents by requiring Opt in. I oppose removing the Opt in provision. I support parental rights in the education of their children concerning sex. This bill mandates the subjects denying local Advisory Boards including parents and local school boards authority to determine the sex education curriculum for their own children. This bill removes the limitation that only School District Teachers or School Nurses can teach Sex Ed and opens the classroom to outside instructors. It allows Planned Parenthood access to schools for the promotion of outside organizations to counsel and provide resources to students for contraceptives, etc., without parental consent.  This is wrong.

AB348 would expand the scope of what is being taught in sexual education, from health issues to radical social issues. Tied to S.H.A.R.E. (Sexual Health And Responsibility Education) in Washoe. Top three concerns with this curriculum are:

  • Removes the concept of gender by asking the teacher to refer to your student as a person with a particular genital body part, not as boy and girl or male and female.
  • Praises and encourages the exploration of sex and sexuality as early as 7th grade, normalizing the ideology that a person can choose their sexual orientation and their gender, and that puberty is the time to explore all options before making a choice.
  • Curriculum contains medically inaccurate information; for example: Lessons that state that abstinence fails.

AB348 changes laws regarding sex education, including removing the parental “opt in,” including educating on abortion. Requirements decided by an unelected and unaccountable to parents Council to Establish Academic Standards. Teaching methods of contraception and different sexual orientations.

NO!!!  Extreme and explicit sex education, Planned Parenthood style. This takes away the parents’ right to “opt in” with a permission slip for sex ed. This deprives parents their rights to rear and educate their children in their own way about sex. This establishes a Council to Establish Academic Standards (CEAS), which is unaccountable to parents. Currently sex ed is taught by a teacher or school nurse. This opens up teaching to “other professional educator”, which means someone from Planned Parenthood or their surrogate. Any one of these talking points will work. Please let the Legislature know how you feel about this issue.
