Mandates that 80% of the state’s energy must come from renewable sources, but fails to recognize how much the cost of this conversion will be to ratepayers. It also fails to address the lack of power density in wind/solar vs. coal, natural gas and oil. It would take huge amounts of natural resources and land to build enough capacity to supply Nevada’s current energy needs largely from renewables, much less accommodate any new growth in those energy needs. The cost of the existing infrastructure must still be paid for and operated when the renewables can’t supply adequate power.
Energy bill requiring 25% renewable by 2025, 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2040. The reason this is being pushed through the Legislature is it then makes it lawful to tax the ratepayers for NVE’s high-falootin’ schemes. If they didn’t have legislation, we would fight rate increases tooth and nail and they know it. This makes it easy for them to expand their budget without recourse.
